Challenges Encountered

  • The project required temporary platforms to be used in the construction of a portion of the Inner Harbor Navigational Channel Hurricane Protection Project for the  North and South Floodwalls
  • Both grouting and clean-out platforms were required to support a small crane

Solutions Provided

  • Huval designed temporary platforms to be used in the construction of a portion of the Inner Harbor Navigational Channel Hurricane Protection Project for the  North and South Floodwalls.
  • Platform designs included:
    • two grouting platforms
    • one clean-out platform
    • two work platforms
    • two 66” pile templates
    • one 36” battered pile template
    • upper and lower moving sleds and lead supports.
    • wheel trucks for all platforms
  • Huval also provided construction support engineering to the contractor

Huval & Associates (as sub-consultant) provided engineering services related to the construction of a portion of the Inner Harbor Navigational Channel Hurricane Protection Project, North and South Floodwalls.

Engineering services included design calculations and drawings for eight temporary platforms to be used in the construction of the floodwall.  The platforms were placed on top of temporary trestle rails.

Platform design included two 66” pile templates, one 36” battered pile template, two grouting platforms, two work platforms to be used by personnel , and one clean-out platform.  Both the grouting and clean-out platforms were required to support a small crane.

The template platform designs included upper and lower moving sleds and lead supports.  Also, Huval designed wheel trucks for all platforms and provided construction support engineering to the contractor.
